Tim has been with the orchard for 36 years and is the current owner/operator. In addition to managing and working the orchard, Tim is also a beekeeper. He has many hives that produce honey that we sell in our store. The bees also provide great pollination for the all of the apple blossoms. In his spare time, when he has any, Tim enjoys cooking, fishing and traveling.
In 1956, Dorothy returned to her family farm with her husband, Mike Smith. She has been farming here ever since! Although she doesn’t take an active role in orchard work, she still keeps track of what we are doing on a daily basis. Dorothy is very interested in the new store and asks constantly when we will begin serving her favorite treat, ice cream!
Rick is a first cousin of Tim and began working at the orchard in the fall of 1999. He came to work fulltime in the fall of 2008 and has been here ever since. Rick contributed in various ways to the orchard before settling into the role of our carpenter and general handyman. He is a skilled and knowledgeable worker and has played a major role in the construction of our new store. In his free time, Rick very much enjoys hiking. His love of hiking has brought him as far as the Haute Route in Switzerland!
Becca graduated from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture in 2013 with a degree in Sustainable Food and Farming. She has worked in many "fields" of agriculture including organic vegetable farming and greenhouse work. Becca began working for us shortly after graduating and quickly moved into the position of our regular delivery driver. She held this position for several years until she was recently promoted to Wholesale Manager. Outside of the orchard she enjoys working in her garden, riding her bike, and baking delicious treats with Apex fruit!
Courtney began working for the orchard in 2010 while pursuing a degree in Social Science at Greenfield Community College. She later completed her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from WSU. A native of Conway, she felt right at home working here in the foothills of Western MA. Courtney was able to expand her skillset as a farmer with guidance, and lots of patience, from Tim. In 2015, she stepped into the role of Manager and currently manages our newly built Farm Store. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, gardening, traveling and hanging out with her family and two dogs, Roxi and Blaze.
Ruth has been working at the orchard for 5 years and plays multiple roles at any given time of the year. Her Bachelor’s degree in Sustainable Horticulture from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture and learned skills from Apex have enabled her to take part in most aspects of orcharding. She can be found doing just about any task whether it be shearing Christmas trees, pruning, packing fruit for wholesale, and even working in the store. It’s her love of the land, people, and fruit at Apex that keeps her coming back every year. Besides working at Apex, she spends her time gardening, hiking, practicing yoga, and spending time with her animals in the neighboring town of Conway.
Lloyd has been a part of Apex for 42 years now and in that time has become one of our key employees. Not only has he performed every job here on the farm but he is also well known in the community, making him a great asset to Apex. Many of our regular customers know Lloyd as a familiar and friendly face who is always smiling. Lloyd is from a town called Darliston in Westmoreland Jamaica. When home, Lloyd farms a variety of crops including Irish potatoes, corn, pumpkins and zucchini. When Lloyd isn’t farming, he enjoys spending time with his wife, 5 children and 10 grandchildren.
Lloyd has been working for Apex for 34 years. Lloyd also comes from Darliston in Westmoreland Jamaica, and is a neighbor of Lloyd Coke. He and his wife run a small bar in Jamaica. He is also a farmer and produces crops of banana, sweet potato and Irish potatoes. Lloyd also raises goats and in his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife, 3 children and 6 grandchildren.
Bobby has been working at the orchard since 1996 and celebrates his 20th year here. Bobby can most often be found driving a tractor or other piece of equipment. During our busy fall picking season he transports all the bins of apples from the picking crew to our storage facility. Bobby also lives and farms in the Green Pond district in Manchester, Jamaica. He raises crops such as yams, oranges and sugar cane.
Orville has been with us for 20 plus years and he manages the picking crew during the harvest season. He is also a tractor operator here at the orchard. He comes from Westmoreland, Jamaica neighboring the Lloyds.
Delroy has been with us since 1994. With vast knowledge and experience he is a jack of all trades here at the orchard as he can do almost any task. Delroy is a skilled carpenter and mason worker. Delroy also lives in the Green Pond District in Manchester, Jamaica. Delroy also farms a variety of crops including oranges and coffee.
Lasalle has been with us for 3 years and is the newest man on our crew. He arrives later in the season to help with fall apple picking. He is from St. Elizabeth, Jamaica and farms carrots and cocoa.
Godfrey has been with us for over 20 years and assists in our fall picking later in the season. He comes from Clarendon Jamaica and is also a farmer.
Lynford has been working at the orchard since 1997 and also comes for our fall picking season. Similar to the Lloyd’s, he comes from Westmoreland, Jamaica.
